The Benefits of Same Day Dental Crowns From Your Phoenix Dentist
For centuries, dental care has been provided to successfully repair damaged teeth using the most innovative materials. Before the early seventies, options for tooth repair with dental crowns, often called caps at the time, were quite limited. Since that time in dental history, significant advances have been made as dentists have developed improved technique, and the benefits of certain materials have been discovered.
Crowns are dental restorations that have evolved a great deal, though the primary purpose remains the same. A crown may be placed over a tooth that has suffered extensive damage, such as from a large cavity. The intent of this type of treatment is to ensure natural tooth structure experiences no further damage, with the crown absorbing the brunt of bite force. Dr. Koppikar may recommend a dental crown in a number of situations, such as:
- A tooth has become brittle, perhaps after root canal therapy.
- A tooth has been deeply damaged from a cavity.
- A fractured tooth needs support.
- A fractured or leaking filling needs to be covered or removed.
- A cavity has developed around an existing filling.
- A tooth is highly sensitive.
- A tooth requires cosmetic repair.
- A dental bridge or implant is designed for tooth replacement.
Today dental crowns, or caps, created by your Phoenix dentist can be made from a variety of materials. Rather than being solely a restorative procedure, a crown can also cosmetically enhance a tooth with gorgeous similarity to natural enamel. At Baltimore Dental Center, we have chosen to offer our patients not only the best in beauty and strength, but also the best in time, bringing CEREC technology on board.
Typically, a crown takes no less than two office visits to complete. CEREC has changed this process, allowing you to maximize the time you have by completing the entire process in a single visit. In a precise approach to restoration, the damaged tooth will be prepared for its crown before it is coated with a specialized powder. This powder, upon imaging, will reflect light in such a way as to create a 3D image. This image is then inserted into a state-of-the-art software program, where a customized crown is designed.
Once the design has been developed, the most suitable block of ceramic is chosen based on the color of surrounding teeth, and is placed into the CEREC milling machine. In just a few minutes, the high-speed diamond burs will craft a strong, beautiful dental crown, which will be bonded to the prepared tooth for long lasting function.
Your dental treatment at Biltmore Dental Center does not have to be long and drawn out. Contact us to learn more about CEREC technology.
