TemporoMandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder is an umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the lower jaw to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment. The disorder transcends the boundaries between several health-care disciplines — in particular, dentistry, neurology, physical therapy, and psychology — so it may require a variety of treatment approaches.
Dr. Koppikar has trained with the best clinicians and researchers who are on the forefront of treating this complex disease. He has had tremendous success with non-surgical therapy for TMJ disorder. However, there are a certain number of patients who can only be treated with surgery. Once we complete your TMJ evaluation, Dr. Koppikar will discuss all your treatment options with you.
